macOS — drag to Applications, then run xattr -cr /Applications/EUKOSMOS.app in Terminal and open normally (otherwise macOS says the app is "damaged").
Windows — SmartScreen warns: click More info → Run anyway.
Linux — chmod +x the AppImage, then run it.

Yes — there are two free tiers. Free gives you 200 entries and 200 MB of sync storage; the Student tier is also completely free with 500 entries and 500 MB — unlocked by verifying your academic email address. Paid tiers add unlimited entries, more encrypted cloud sync, longer version history and multi-device access. If a subscription ever lapses you degrade gracefully to Free — your data is never locked.
Subscriptions are processed by Polar as merchant of record — EUKOSMOS never sees your card details. You can manage or cancel any time from the customer portal. Checkout currently runs in sandbox test mode while we finalise payments; no real charges are made until the production launch.

In a local folder you choose: SQLite plus plain JSON and Markdown files. You can read every byte with standard tools, back it up with Dropbox or Time Machine, and take it with you forever.
Yes — export your library as a .bib file and bulk-import it. EUKOSMOS re-enriches every entry from the seven-database cascade, usually ending up with richer metadata than you started with.
Completely. Enrichment needs the internet to query the databases; everything else — reading, writing, searching, exporting — works with no connection at all.
Nothing but the app: download the desktop beta for Mac, Windows or Linux and double-click. Prefer running from source? Python 3.8+ and a modern browser — the core has zero third-party dependencies, python serve.py and you're in. (Beta builds are unsigned; code-signed installers with auto-update are coming.)
